It’s about 9am on a Monday morning. Tired faces walk into the fourth year research psychology class, dragging their feet. There’s a perky few who have already gotten their morning coffee fix. After four years at Guelph-Humber, some of these students have learned that it’s better to get to class early and beat the line at the popular William’s Coffee Pub, on the second floor. Others have perfected the route to school and now know how long they can sleep in before getting to class on time. A few take the extra time to check their email, having perfected their schedules after so many years. These are the the fourth year Psychology students, who are on the track to finishing their Bachelors of Applied Science degree. They reflect over some of the great memories that were made at the University of Guelph-Humber.

A few students were asked why they had even chosen to attend Guelph-Humber. Kristen Lewis, who plans to graduate this year, says that the small class sizes appealed to her. Andrew Cecchetto, a fellow student, agreed and commented that he was especially interested in how Guelph-Humber provided him with a one-on-one experience with professors. When asked about how they felt about the Psychology program, many students felt positive about their time spent in the program. Stephanie Barbossa, felt that the program was very academically enriching. The program helped her with narrowing in on an area of psychology she planned to study further. She’ll be graduating this year and plans to do a Masters of Education specifically focusing on Counselling Psychology.

There were many memorable moments for the fourth years. Jessica Ricci, who plans to go to grad school for Sports Psychology commented that she’ll never forget orientation which was hosted by the Guelph-Humber Student Association (GHSA). She remembers how she made life long relationships with the other students at orientation. Vanessa Commisio, a future graduate, also has fond memories from GHSA events, such as the Guelph-Humber Gala. It gave her a chance to really build a closer bond with many of her fellow peers outside of school.

It seems as though students will miss the comforting arms of Guelph-Humber. Psychology students were asked how they felt about further studies. Jessica Peters, although excited about graduating, feels a little anxious about leaving the familiar walls of Guelph-Humber. She’s not alone, as many students expressed this sentiment. After spending so much time at the school, the students consider it to be a home away from home.

By the end of the class, students shuffle out faster than they came in. Some make study plans, others schedule in coffee dates. As fourth year will come to an end, these students will fly away from the nest onto new endeavours. Good luck students!
