Media News

Over the summer, changes were made to the curriculum that left students without a doubt fuming and slightly vexed. The upcoming semesters for fourth year media students were not as promised and students may have felt a sense of abandonment in a year of utmost importance to them. Final year students would embark on internships and complete a thesis, yet at the last minute the programming was amiss and changed. For better or for worse?

The addition of courses to the final semester may have interrupted your dream internship position or added stress to your already full courseload. Please be assured that there will be adjustments made so you can venture on the internship track you want. There will be curriculum committee meetings held on a regular basis and a Program Head with his door open to you and your ideas.

It has been a semester with lots of changes, but remember that administration can be blind to some problems at hand if they are not brought up. Don’t hesitate to contact your GHSA Media Studies representatives.

We are doing our best to bring to light the ideas and concerns you have and get them in motion. Our Program Head Jerry Chomyn has said he wants to make Guelph-Humber nimble and fast-moving, unlike the dinosaur notion of the traditional university.

On a last note, we would like to thank the students that came out to our meet and greet last semester. This year, we will be hosting an open forum for students to communicate with Jerry. We are also in works to hold a portfolio workshop for all media students, as well as finding a way for you to openly evaluate your classes and share ideas with other students.
